Review for WWE The Best of SmackDown 2009-2010

To me, Smackdown feels much more like a show about wrestling, unlike Raw, which feels much more about gimmicks/guest hosts and also a lot of instant reactions to the PPVs. This three disk set is a collection of the best matches from the October 2009 to September 2010 divided into monthly sections.The set includes twenty-two matches that pretty much reflect the year, however that is not to say that this set is the best wrestling you will ever see. Sadly, the past year hasn't been the best for Smackdown or for WWE in general, but that is not to say that there isn't some great stuff on offer.

John Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Undertaker vs. Randy Orton, Ted Dibiase, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk

These PPV quality matches are bolstered by many other little matches to show the developing talent in WWE such as Dashing Cody Rhodes, Alberto Del Rio and Drew McIntyre (Who features in four matches here). Now, not all of the matches are excellent, but you can understand why they were included and they can't give away every PPV match on the TV show. Of course the ultimate highlight of this set is the return of The Rock. This one segment, thankfully shown in full, is possibly worth the price of the DVD alone as it was definitely one of the best moments of the year.
WWE Smackdown: The Best of 2009-2010 is actually a pretty good set overall. It's not exactly the best collection of matches you will ever watch, but it is certainly not a collection that isn't worth watching. There is a great mix of matches and some that I would actually say were better than the ones on the PPVs. As an overview as to why Smackdown is not just the B-Show under Raw, this is a great set to prove just how good it can be. I just hope that 10-11 will be just as good.
