Review of Sleepless In Seattle

5 / 10

Video

This DVD of Sleepless in Seattle is the first release. There has just been a new Special Edition version of this film released which is a much better buy as loads of extras are crammed onto it. This version is the non SE.

For a film of 100 odd minutes there is a whopping 49 chapters on here! I thought the film seemed a little overly dark to my mind, which may be different on the new version. I also noticed a little digital pixelation in certain darker, `one colour` scenes.

Audio

There is only a Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack on here (or ProLogic surround) so no 5.1 fun available! I am not sure about the Special Edition version DVD. It may be that the film never benefited from a 5.1 mix.

Features

The menus are static and are about as basic as they can possibly be. Again it looks like all the goodies are now included on the new SE version.

Conclusion

This is a romantic, pink and fluffy movie with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan meeting on the top of the Empire State Building in New York, Ryan having heard Hanks on a radio phone-in show. Hank`s 8 year old screen son looks like he has just graduated from the Hollywood Cute Kid school, and will no doubt make many of the audience go `Aahhh!!`.

The DVD is very basic however, and therefore the recommendation has to be to go for the newer Special Edition version, which has been released at the same price I believe!
