Review for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (DVD)
This is a great detective story based on the the first of the Milleneum Triology books by Stieg Larrson. I read the book first and the DVD followed the story line well. The characters came to lfe in a way that was true to my imagination of them and the complexity of the story was not compromised.
Lisbeth Salander, played by Noomi Rapace, captures the moods of this young woman with a troubled background, has a much larger tatoo on her back than on the cover in the book (full back compared to just shoulder sized, indicating there is more cash available in film making that there is in book cover design!). The scenary was beautifully photogaphed and the atmospherics generally dark, reminiscent of the Swedish made for TV series about Wallander, Henning Mankell's fictional detective. If you enjoyed this series you will enjoy this film.
Two story lines are interwoven, the background of super hacker, Lisbeth and the hunt for the killer of the girl that disappeared 30 years earlier.
I'm used to Swedish subtitles and didn't find them intrusive for this film.
