Review for Decoding Dan Brown: The Documentaries

All three of these documentaries feel like the typical conspiracy theory documentaries that litter the Discovery Channel, with people taking the minute details and making huge assumptions from it. This is not to say that what they are saying isn't true, but sometimes the evidence is so flimsy that I doubt even Sherlock Holmes would be able to draw that conclusion from it. Presented by Simon Cox, author of many books on Dan Brown's work my only real issue with these is they do look like amateur Youtube-style videos. Though they are well edited and everything and at least make their points clear the problem I have is that the documentaries are only one side of the argument and there as there is no rebuttall we have to accept everything everyone says as the truth.
Each documentary focuses on one of Dan Brown's books Hunting the Lost Symbol (The Lost Symbol), Illuminating Anels and Demons (Angels and Demons) and Cracking The Da Vinci Code (The Da Vinci Code). These all include fairly indepth interviews with various scholars and people who have studied up on all of this and the much like Teabing does in The Da Vinci Code, the use of pictures to demonstrate their points is great and though I am a little sceptical about it all, the general information is interesting to say the least. Though I'm sure most people will go straight to The Da Vinci Code documentary, the other two are also worth a watch too and actually in terms of Hunting the Lost Symbol actually made me curious to go and read it.
If there was ever a collection of disks that needed subtitles it would be these ones. The use of many words that I just missed or did not understand really would have been helped with the use of a subtitle track and yet over the three documentaries none are given. In fact no other extras are given which is a little odd considering there must have been more from those interviewed on each.
Though the documentaries are fairly precise in what they want to reveal to us, I get the feeling that much is also kept hidden too. mMany of the theories are spurious at best and laughable at worst and though I doubt many religious people will want to watch these, I do think if you have a strong faith you should watch them as they may make you question some things about what you have been told.
