Review for NBA Undeniable: The Rise of Dwyane Wade

7 / 10

He has only been in the NBA since 2003 and already his name is being spoken in the same breath as Michael Jordan, Larry Bird,Shaq and Magic Johnson. Dwyane Wade is to the Miami Heat what Jordan was to the Chicago Bulls for so many years and if you look at what he has achieved in just seven years it is astounding: NBA Champion, NBA Finals MBP, NBA All-Star MVP, 2008 Olympic Gold Medal and within just three years of his career he was named Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated an award that has only been awarded to nine other basketball players (one of which was Michael Jordan).
This DVD takes you through his career so far, from his college years at Marquette through to his NBA Draft to the Miami Heat in 2003. Watching him play, you can understand why Shaq dubbed him 'Flash', his movement is so quick, so agile, and so athletic that you wonder just how he does it. The footage of him playing is extensive and wonderful and just listening to him talk and others talk about him you can tell that he really loves playing the game and this shines through when he is on the court. The creators of this disk went all out with the extras and I seriously doubt that (beyond including a full game) that there are any moments, shots or plays that have been missed. There are multiple featurettes focusing on different aspects of him including a very interesting look at the friendship between Wade and Cleveland Cavaliers player LeBron James.
NBA Undeniable: The Rise of Dwyane Wade, as with all profile DVDs produced by the NBA is a skilfully made documentary and though a little shorter than I would have liked I feel that the extras more than make up for it. Now, although I know that if someone was asked to write the Top Ten Basketball players of all time, Wade may not be in that list... but give him another four or five years of playing as good as he already does and that will surely change.
