Review for UFC Ultimate 100 Greatest Fight Moments
For any true MMA fan, UFC Ultimate Greatest Fight Moments is a very good addition to the DVD collection. If you didn't catch the TV show, it was basically a countdown show brought to you in five parts. Mike Goldberg would then take the viewer through a succession of memorable fights dating back from the UFC's early years up until 2009.
It makes for interesting viewing, and with short clips of memorable bouts mixed in with promos for some of the legendary fighters that have competed inside the octagon, it is certainly well put together.
Video
Video is presented in 4:2 PAL and is very good. The effects might not be something that you completely look for when the segments occur, but clips of the fights still look fresh, even the ones from way back in the mid nineties.
Audio
Audio is brought to you in 2.0 Dolby Digital. You wont miss a word from Goldberg or any UFC fighter throughout.
Extras
Sadly, the most disappointing aspect of this whole DVD is there is not a single extra to be had. If you were lucky enough to watch the series on TV, then that is exactly what you get on DVD.
This certainly takes a lot of shine off the DVD for me and I did expect a whole lot more available than just the straightforward program.
Conclusion
For any MMA fan, new or old, 100 Greatest Fight Moments is certainly a very good watch. You will enjoy reminiscing or seeing for the first time some very good fights. From Paul 'Relentless' Taylor vs. Paul Kelly at number 100 to the number one fight, which I will not ruin.
However this DVD has it's flaws. If you have seen the TV series, which I have, you get nothing extra with the DVD. It's just the whole series part by part. Which, from a personal point of view, is a little disappointing because you expect a little more when you fork out your hard earned cash.
Although some of the coverage is very good, the series may have benefited from including longer highlights of some fights, especially towards the number one spot. They could have even thrown in a whole fight every now and again, especially the short ones.
Also it's sometimes hard not to guess what's coming, especially when you get to the top ten. But I suppose that can't be helped. Another potential problem could be the fights that were missed that, despite maybe not involving some of the bigger 'names' in the UFC, may still have been excellent fights.
However this is, after all, voted for by fans and you can't please everyone. So all in all this is a good buy, and certainly worth the money you will spend on it. But, despite getting highlights of 100 great fights, you just may feel a little underwhelmed that you didn't get a touch more.
