Synopsis:
Historical recordings from the 1960s of two of the late-nineteenth century's most powerful choral works.

The great Italian conductor Carlo Maria Giulini is at the height of his powers with the Philharmonia Orchestra and chorus (later renamed the New Philharmonia) with whom he worked for many years, building up a partnership which was renowned the world over.

Here, he tackles works for which is his interpretations are justifiably admired, and performs with soloists (in the Requiem) who would put many modern singers to shame.
