Synopsis:
Set in the wilds of the deep South of America, Southern Gothic takes the traditional staple of southern cinema - long, brooding shots of stunning landscapes, deeply flawed characters and heavy accents - to a level it would have never thought of crossing into, mixing it into a terrifying picture of crazed vampire preachers and acts of violent desperation.
Hazel, a self-destructive alcoholic, working in a strip club in the Southern town of Redemption, is befriended by Starla and her daughter Hope. Hazel's downward spiral is brought to a sudden halt when he must risk life and limb after Hope is kidnapped by the local preacher (William Forsythe - Halloween, The Devils Rejects)- a transformed psychotic vampire who has recently joined the undead and is now on a bloody crusade to convert his congregation.
A rollercoaster ride of terror, grim humour and a truly original Gothic tale,Southern Gothic is gorgeously shot, superbly acted and bloodily violent, a monster of a picture that plays with the established mythos of the vampire and takes it into dark, brooding and totally original territory.
