Locked and Loaded

8 / 10

Introduction

Sean Lock has been performing stand up comedy for over fifteen years to packed houses across the UK. He won the British Comedy Award for Best Stand Up in 2000, and was nominated for a Perrier Award in the same year.

This is his much awaited, first ever live DVD. Following a national UK tour earlier in the year, this sell out show was filmed live at the London Hammersmith Apollo.

Video and Audio

Nothing to complain about here, a 1.78:1 anamorphic transfer as you would expect and a DD2.0 stereo soundtrack that's just fine.

Extra Features

Two extras on show here - a behind the scenes style video diary of Sean on the road, and his 30 minute performance from the BBC One show Live at the Apollo. A welcome inclusion.

Conclusion

Sean Lock is a great stand up comedian. He's been away from the scene for a while, concentrating on TV work like his own excellent 15 Storeys High, and appearing on panel shows such as 8 Out Of 10 Cats and QI as well as presenting the Channel 4 show TV Heaven, Telly Hell.

His style is quite dry and relaxed, intelligent yet accessible. A very good set featured here, you might recognise some of the routines but there's plenty of new stuff here. The set from the BBC Apollo show is also very well balanced.

This is another great stand up DVD. It seems the end of 2008 has blessed us with a very large number of entertaining DVDs, so there's no excuse for buying someone a Jethro or Jim Davidson DVD for Christmas this year...
