Synopsis:
It had been less than a year since man first walked on the moon, but as far as the American public was concerned, Apollo 13 was just another "routine" space flight- until these words pierced the immense void of space: "Houston, we have a problem." Ron Howard directs Academy Award winner Ton Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, and Ed Harris in a riveting suspense-thriller from Imagine Entertainment.

Stranded 205,000 miles from Earth in a crippled spacecraft, astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and Jack Swigert fight a desperate battle to survive. Meanwhile, at Mission Control, astronaut Ken Mattingly, flight director Gene Kranz and a heroic ground crew race against time, and the odds, to bring them home.

It’s a breathtaking adventure that tells a story of courage, faith and ingenuity that is all the more remarkable because it is true!

This disc is absolutely SUPERB !!

The picture and sound quality are as good as I`ve seen (and heard) from any DVD. As most people already know the acting from Tom Hanks et al is also spot on.

The documentary (making of) extra is also superb and runs to around 1 hour, with real NASA and news footage of Apollo 13. It also contains inerviews with 2 of the astronauts, the flight director and people who really went through it.

If you were thinking of buying this disc, I can thoroughly recommend it.

Well, I`m reviewing the non-special region 2 version here. There is no documentary, but the audio commentary tracks ( plural ) are excellent. One track features the real commander of Apollo 13 - this alone puts a sparkle into this DVD.

Review of Apollo 13 region 1 DTS version (Non collector`s edition)

On the disk there are no extras to speak of ,but what you do get is pure sound.
It has to be the best sounding dvd for effects I have heard so far.
So if you are not bothered about once view extras and more interested in a home cinema experience
The Region I DTS version is for you.
The down side is you need to have a DTS amp.

This disc is amazing. It follows the true story of Apollo 13 and Tom Hanks says the dreaded words "Houston We Have a Problem." It is a very good movie. There is a lot of special features. There is a directors commentary and a commentary by Jim Lovell. There is also production notes and the original trailer and a lot of other features. This disc is great and any fan of Tom Hanks or Ron Howard should buy it.
