Introduction

Peace One Day started as the vision of British filmmaker Jeremy Gilley. His explorations of the issues surrounding the nature of peace through his work led to a documentary charting his journey to establish Peace Day, now adopted by the UN as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, every September 21st.

The Peace One Day concert was held and filmed on 21st September 2007 at the Royal Albert Hall. Here's a selection of the tracks on offer:-

A 1.33:1 NTSC transfer? Is this the dark ages? Or just Warner being lazy with their music DVDs again? Plumping for the latter, as they've got plenty of form in this area! Must have been filmed in widescreen, surely PAL, but no sign of these, just a half-baked NTSC transfer. Ho hum. But as with most music DVDs it`s all about the music so I'll shut up.

Audio

A choice of stereo and DD5.1 soundtracks. DD5.1 is the choice you should make if you are able, as it sounds pretty good (best played loud of course). The DD2.0 stereo soundtrack also sounds very good, but DD5.1 is the one to go for if you can.

A shame there`s no dts as many dts concert mixes seem to be superior to my ears (or at least on my equipment), but the DD5.1 on offer here is certainly very good.

Extra Features

The option of playing all, playing music only, or playing the film inserts (the stuff about peace) only.

Conclusion

Your desire to buy this depends on how much you like the various artists. Corinne Bailey Rae was pretty good but you could get these performances from something like Channel 4's Live at Abbey Road or anything else that she's appeared on. Annie Lennox still sounds good but she always lacks something when there's no Dave Stewart around. Look at their performances on 46664 (the Nelson Mandela concert from a few years ago) for a good example of this.

And then there's Kate Nash, who makes me come out in a rash! Her voice sounds like someone killing the English language with a nailgun. Just thinking about it makes me shiver. Yuck.

It's doubtful I'll be playing this one again and unless you like the 2 or 3 tracks by all of the artists, it's doubtful that you'll want to buy this disc...
