I could not beleive how overated this film is.
I was tempted to order Region 1, I`m glad I didn`t.

All American hero nonsense.

Oh no another wave!!!!!

I enjoyed this one, great drama and tension. Although, all that was lacking was an American Flag flowing at the end as the boat drives into the storm.

Sound and Picture, kicked some and the extras aren`t bad. But what the hell is Bruce Springsteen singing the theme for?

Not having seen this film before buying it, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I found was a fairly entertaining movie with some awesome special effects but I felt that the drama with the crew of the Andrea Gail wasn’t very well handled. In the end they were wearing thin even after so much of the film was dedicated to their character development. However George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg turned in good performances and save the film in that department.
The storm sequences are very well made and you find out how they were made in a good ‘Making of’ documentary that runs for a good twenty minutes.
Two other documentaries are included, a surprisingly short one entitled ‘witnesses to the storm’ that has interviews with people that saw the real storm. The other is ‘Creating an emotion’ that is about the James Horner score.
Other features include a short trailer, a conceptual art gallery that has Wolfgang Petersen’s commentary with it. A nice extra that shows that there has been some effort put into it to not make it just another photo gallery.
The storyboard gallery is good and has most of the key scenes featured.
After a montage of action clips from the film the disc has a rather static and boring menu system. Full marks for the number of chapter stops, there are 39 in all.
Great entertainment but don’t expect anything special.
