Review of South Park Volume 3

8 / 10

Introduction

The boys from South Park continue their attack on the region two DVD market, with this the third of eleven volumes of the series, and wraps up the first season, with the final five episodes. As you would expect, the show is now in full swing with these episodes.

Video

As with the previous discs, another reasonable 4:3 transfer. Again, it`s not perfection, but there aren`t that many problems with it.

Still some compression artefacts on show, and you do wonder yet again if they cut even more corners to squish five episodes onto a DVD-5. Given the simplicity of the animation, it`s reasonable to expect a little more quality.

Audio

Same as the previous two discs, a DD2.0 stereo track, perfectly adequate for the job. Again, the French audio track is included again, with different voices for the characters.

Features

Each episode is introduced by creators Matt Stone & Trey Parker, and these are just as funny as the shows themselves. The disc also includes a general trailer for the show.

Once more I was left with a feeling that there could have been more stuff included.

Conclusion

Another cracking set of episodes.

"Starvin` Marvin" features the aptly named Ethiopian himself, as well as the cartoon Sally Struthers, crazed GM turkeys and other Thanksgiving shenanigans.

"Mecha-Streisand" features "friend of the show" Ms Streisand, an archaeological dig and many other bizarre goings on.

"Mr Hankey, The Christmas Poo" is the Christmas special with a difference, as the hero of the hour is indeed literally a piece of poo. We`re not talking sophisticated subtle humour here !

"Damien" is the story of the new kid at school. Oh, and he happens to be the son of Satan, which rather spoils Cartman`s birthday party.....

"Cartman`s Mom Is A Dirty Slut" is the last episode of the season, and features that American TV stalwart, the end of season cliffhanger. Cartman is continually frustrated in his attempts to discover the true identity of his father......

Another must for fans, and better value for money this time round as you get an extra episode to play with. As ever, not for the easily offended.
