Your Opinions and Comments

7 / 10
This disc contains the very first 4 episodes of South Park and every single one of them are the creators' (Trey Parker & Matt Stone) 'favourite episode'… which is nice. These are 4 excellent episodes ("Cartman Gets An Anal Probe", "Volcano", "Weight Gain 4000", and "Big Gay Al`s Big Gay Boat Ride"). Basically this is classic South Park and very very funny.

Of course you're enjoyment of this particular disc will depend very much on your opinion of South Park. If, like me, you like this programme, then you'll find much enjoyment is to be had from this disc. If however you're not a fan of South Park then this really ain't gonna be for you! I think South Park is really one of those shows that you either love or hate. while I freely admit my love for South Park, I can understand that it is not for everyone (my Mum being an example of this - she loathes this program with a hatred that is usually reserved for her long-suffering son!).

Still, I don't mean to put you off! If you've never seen South Park before you can't really go wrong with this very first disc. If you hate it, well… then… I pity you… because huge enjoyment can be gained from this disc.

On the disc front, things are all ok-ish. This disc was never going to pioneer new levels of video or audio delight, but everything is fine. Extras are however, a little thin on the ground. We get a general trailer for the series… and we also get an introduction to each episode from Matt and Trey. Each intro is a couple of minutes and very amusing. A nice touch is that while the episodes aren't divided into chapters, the split between the intro and the episode is - so you can skip the intro easily if you've already seen it in order to get to the episode itself.

Overall, a nice disc, that you're buying for content above anything else. A few more extras would have been welcome (commentary from Matt and Trey being the obvious one). As Rich Goodman says, 'not to be shown to children or the easily offended' - but I would add, not to be shown to children, the easily offended, or my mum!
