Review for Straight Outta Dudleyville: The Legacy of The Dudley Boyz

When you ask me who the best tag team was, my answer is always The Roadwarriors. End of story. Even Bubba comments that when people say they are the greatest tag teams he thinks it is The Roadwarriors... but when you look at stats, tag team reigns, main events, matches of the year, I would have to say The Dudley Boyz have got to be up there.

The documentary (like a lot of the recent ones) follows the team on one day, that being their return to the WWE. Bubba and D-Von talk about their history, growing up, their training (or in the case of Bubba lack of) and the steps they went through to finally make it to ECW.

There is a wonderful segment where they explain the Dudley Boyz and how they came to be and when you look at them in ECW it made perfect sense. This wasn't like the nWo having 100 members because... well, just because... each one had their own unique style and character.

We see how D-Von and Bubba went from being enemies to being a team and not just a team, but the best team to ever come out of any promotion. Watching them in ECW is fantastic and you could tell this was something that could only happen in that extreme company. They don't spend much time on their time in ECW, which is bizarre, but I can understand if they want to get to them getting to WWE.

When they got to the WWE they were just as wonderful. True, they couldn't do a lot of the extreme stuff they did, but they were able to adapt to the style, making table matches a cool part of the wrestling business. The team went on to be one of the most popular with feuds with the likes of The Hardy Boyz and Edge and Christian. These three teams in any combination wwere so enjoyable to watch that they made tag team wrestling popular again. This all culminated with the triangle ladder matches between the teams which became the blueprint for the TLC matches and basically what every tag match had to compete with.

They do talk about the brand split and them splitting the team up which was generally regarded as a failure. D-Von went on as Reverend D-Von with Deacon Batista and Bubba went on to just still be Bubba and it didn't work. It was not surprising that they put them back together. However, at the time there were no real teams to go against and it was time for a break and went on to TNA (which it is suprising that they mentioned by name), but really they talked about working in Japan and Bubba's change in health and World Championship run.

Over the two disks there are multiple matches and on some of them they discuss the match which is nice, though I do wish a full commentary had been included.

They include 27 matches across ECW and WWE. These matches are all amazing to watch and if you have never seen anything from ECW then this is a great place to start. There are also multiple extra thoughts and stories, some I can understand why they cut, but most are still interesting to listen to.

Highlights include their fantastic match against The Eliminators at Barely Legal which showed just how good they were against any team. Though they don't include the original triple team match from Wrestlemania 16, they do include the fantastic TLC matches from Summerslam and Wrestlemania 17 against them Edge and Christian and The Hardy Boyz. Both of these matches are some of the best tag team matches I have ever seen and whether you are a fan of any of these teams these are fantastic examples of what they can do.

Both D-Von and Bubba-Ray have a singles match against Triple H which are both fantastic and showed that even though I never enjoyed their singles run in the WWE they could both work well on their own.

Also included is the match against Tommy Dreamer and Sandman from One Night Stand, which was one of the amazing highlights from this PPV and their return championship match against The New Day from 2015 which showed just how good they are as a team and how good they always will be.

Straight Outta Dudleyville is a great documentary about such an amazing team. The Dudley Boyz are one of the best teams of all time and doesn't matter whether we are talking about their extreme time in ECW or their time in WWE or even their time now, they are one of the greatest teams to ever tag in the business. If you are a fan of ECW you will love this set, if you love tag team wrestling this is a great collection of matches and if you are a fan of wrestling in general, this is definitely a set to pick up.
