Review of Beavis And Butt Head Do America

7 / 10

Introduction

`Beavis and Butt-Head` is an acquired taste, but if you have any fondness at all for puerile and immature humour, then this movie is a riot!

I had not seen the TV show before watching this movie, and I don’t consider myself to have a particularly juvenile sense of humour (no, really) but I found this film quite funny. There are also lots more genuinely witty moments then you would think, as director and voice of the duo Mike Judge later showed in his next cartoon project, ‘King of the Hill’.

Video

Well, the picture is in its original aspect ratio, and is also anamorphic, but resolution would probably not be on very important on this type of movie. The picture is good, as far as I can tell, with no artifacts. It’s nice to know that Paramount makes an effort technically, even for cartoons!

Audio

An actually very good mix is provided, with a surprisingly high amount of bass used. Very pleasing to the ear, whilst not being spectacular.

Features

There are no extras, except for a couple of trailers. I suppose this isn’t the kind of movie where a director’s commentary would be essential listening, but it would have been nice to see Mike Judge and fellow character voices Bruce Willis and Demi Moore in action making the movie.

Conclusion

A must-buy for fans of the show, and a worthy rental for people who have never experienced this cult cartoon before. And unless the unlikely event of a full-blown special edition arises, this will also be the best version of the disc that is ever going to be released.
