Review of Pandora Peaks / Finders Keepers, Lovers Weepers

Introduction

Pandora Peaks: Meyer was lured out of retirement for this, his last movie, a pastiche of his older movies masquerading as a portrait of stripper and mega-boob model Pandora Peaks, and his love of bosomy females in general. Meyer himself narrates, reading from his three-volume autobiography "A Clean Breast" and reminiscing about his career, both in war- and peace-time. Ms Peaks and a variety of ladies offer a voice-over commentary of their perspective of having huge knockers.

Anthony James Ryan, co-star of his 1961 opus Eve And The Handyman, and frequent and long-term Meyer associate features as the light-relief of the movie, as opposed to the hand relief who is Pandora Peaks. Ms Peaks, best known for her appearance as Urbanna Sprawl, a fellow stripper in Demi Moore`s movie Striptease, happily struts hers stuff alongside other mammarily well endowed ladies from Europe and the US.

Finders Keepers, Lovers Weepers is Meyer`s 1968 exploitation flick, made directly previous to his iconic Vixen. Lacking his usual humour and displaying a crueller nature than his other films, Finders is a crime drama about a sleazy nightclub owner and complications arising from his relationship with a voluptuous brothel madam. This involves two thugs she hires, a kidnap and some pretty unpleasant violence. The tone of the movie is prurient and tends to overmoralise.

Video

Both pictures are presented in the original 4:3. Pandora Peaks, being produced in 2000, is in immaculate condition with bright, vibrant colours. Finders is in sorrier state, with print damage, but nothing untoward.

Audio

Finders comes with the standard mono soundtrack rendered as Dolby 2.0. Pandora comes with a stereo mix(!) but nothing to particularly write home about other than that there is better separation of voices and music track.

Features

The usual suspects for these releases - tv spots for the DVD collection, and the ever-present Trailer Reel comprising theatrical trailers of many of the previous releases.

Conclusion

One purely for the Meyer completists. It isn`t the old man at his best or most entertaining. The IMDb listing for Pandora Peaks gives the running time as 26 minutes, but this feature runs for almost 72. I suspect that this movie may in fact be a compilation of the Pandora Peaks short and the material he had shot for "The Breast Of Russ Meyer", a film he had been working on over the years as a companion to his memoirs.
