Review of Mass Destruction

2 / 10

Introduction

Mass Destruction is a kickboxing DVD featuring Don `The Dragon` Wilson. There are 5 bouts spanning the disc featuring: Labree vs Rosier, Longinidis vs Roufus, Kimber vs Wilson, Biofore vs Robinson and Reed vs Theriault. There`s ringside television commentary from Jean-Yves Theriault and Phil Stone and are typical commentators. They talk a lot. So we get to be front and centre in witness to an action packed warfare of a night! Not quite.

Video

This has a soft fullframe 4:3 video transfer. It was shot on tape in NTSC so it looks soft and a little over exposed. Colours look somewhat washed out and it lacks vibrancy and detail. You can see what`s going on but it just looks plain and dull.

Audio

Nothing special in the audio department. This is a TV special so the order of the day: Dolby Digital 2.0. That`s it. The sound is okay for what it is. It`s clear enough and without any audio problems.

Features

The most basic of menus shows just three options: Play Feature, Chapter Selection and Biography. The bio is for Don `The Dragon` Wilson and consists of one page. This isn`t the kind of disc to have subtitles.

Conclusion

"...the greatest night in martial arts history." No. It`s not, not in my opinion anyway.

I found this DVD to be boring. I can`t confess to being a boxing, wrestling, or kickboxing fan so just watching grown men pummel each other is not my idea of entertainment. It`s dull. This isn`t a film where it`s made to be entertaining. This is the real thing. Having said that, there seems to be an audience for it, unless all the spectators in the crowd on this DVD were paid to be there.

I`d much rather watch Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy bigging it up on ITV wrestling on a Saturday afternoon. Not recommended unless you`re a true diehard kickboxing fan who knows the names of the fighters and wants to preserve the bouts on DVD. Right then, I`m off to go scrape some wallpaper...
