Review of Blazing Saddles

8 / 10

Introduction

Like most people I know, my VHS copy of this is well worn, and I pretty much know the script off by heart. This is a very, very funny film. It's basically a comedy western, but there's so much more to it than that.

Video

The picture on the DVD itself is good considering the age of the print, and the fact that this was one of the earliest DVDs ever released.

Audio

The sound is mono, and is ok, but so many DVDs have been released since this first came out, so you know that they can do it a lot better these days.

Features

Extras include an audio commentary by Mel Brooks, although this doesn't last throughout the entire film (it's called scene-specific nowadays), and there's also a trailer and biographies.

Conclusion

A comedy classic !

The DVD is not the most stunning example of a DVD release because it's such an old DVD but it's the film that's the important thing, and it is still a great film even after all these years.

It has been superceded by the 30th anniversary edition and the Blu-Ray edition, but this is still a worthy old DVD.
