Review of Suzi Perry Superbike Weekend: Access All Areas

7 / 10

Introduction

There isn`t much to this disc. It`s an interesting slice of life of a Superbike Weekend at Brands Hatch. We get to go behind the scenes of the race, the pits, qualifying as well as watch interviews with top riders such as Troy Bayliss and Colin Edwards. Even Fogerty makes an appearance! Plus of course this DVD contains bits that can`t be shown on TV. All presented brilliantly by Suzi Perry.

The programme is split into three parts: Day One, Friday Practise; Day Two, Saturday Superpole and Day Three, Sunday Race Day.

Video

Presented with a 1.33:1 fullframe transfer, it`s crisp and clean all the way through. I didn`t spot any problems at all with the DVD and it`s a pleasure to watch.

Audio

Only 2 channel sound which is functional and clear at all times. I don`t expect sport to be presented with a 5.1 mix so what we have here is fine. There`s no distortion and you can pump up the sound to hear the roaring motorbike engines!

Features

Animated front menu gives us: Access All Areas which plays the programme, the Pit Lane, which is the name for chapter selection, and then there`s an interview with Suzi Perry. All in all this disc runs for about 1hr 50 mins. The interview is quite good as Suzi talks about last season and a little about herself. She`s very personable and exudes charm. There are no trailers/ads for other DVDs or anything else for that. It`s a shame since this DVD could be an ideal first foray into Superbikes so more beginner info to the sport might have been nice. As you can tell, I`m not a hardcore fan, I`m just starting to get into it. :-)

Conclusion

I think this is a very well made DVD. It`s appeal however will only really be for those that are into Superbike racing or bikes. I have to confess that while I`m not the biggest Superbike fan around, I`m far more into it after watching this disc than before. Suzi Perry makes the sport far more pleasurable with her lively presenting style and her knowledge of the sport is impressive. I`m hooked and can`t wait to start watching the new season next year!

With the music running in the background coupled with the choppy editing it gives the feel of pace and it`s never a dull moment. Suzi can be a little distracting at times, and you can see all the heads turn as she walks, how can I concentrate on what she`s saying? Looks like I`ll need to watch the DVD again...Lastly, Ms Perry also has her own official website to check out too... :-)

You don`t need to be an existing follower or fan of the sport to appreciate this disc. You`ll soon get to know the names and the way things work and as long as you like bikes and all things fast, you`re bound to enjoy this DVD. The only sticking point is the price. Street price is around £20 and this is expensive for what it is which is why I`d recommend getting this if you like the sport.
