Review of Brian McKnight: Music In High Places
Introduction
I wasn`t too sure of this DVD when it arrived. I`ve never really been into reviewing music on either DVD or CD but you`ve got to give it a go some time and it might as well be now!
Now this is a DVD of Brian McKnight, who, I hear you cry. Well I was in the same boat, I`d never heard of him either but was quite pleasantly surprised when I popped in the disc and settled down with a cup of coffee to deliberate his musical stylings.
Video
The Video is OK. It`s typical digital TV type quality with quite a large amount of macro blocking that does eventually become distracting. This is a shame as the program content is there to show off the wonderful sites of Brazil as well as Brian`s music talents. To be perfectly honest I`d watch the disc once and then only play it for the music with the TV turned off, it`s a bit dull period!
Audio
The audio is punchy and well balanced over the full 5.1 soundstage. This isn`t movie quality sound mixing or even up to the standard of The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over. It`s just a simple effort, giving room filling ambience that is smooth and clear at all times. And just to add, I actually liked his music. Very soulful with a hint of old jazz and new jazz fusion.
Features
Not a great deal to shout about, so I won`t. There`s a couple of hidden trailers for other "Music in high places DVDs"
Conclusion
Overall the disc is lacking as a music video DVD. The picture quality is below par and the disc is really only a must for his biggest fans. This is a shame because Brazil looks fabulous!
