Review of Twilight Zone, The: Vol 26
Introduction
Yet another 4 episodes from the classic Twilight Zone series. This time around it`s a mixed bag, one from series one, two from series three and the last one from series five.
Notable episodes (IMHO) on this disc would be "Showdown with Rance McGrew" and "Night Call", both feature typical `Zone twists and, especially Night Call, would be ones I class as above average ;)
The others are a little more obvious and less well polished although still perfectly watchable.
Video
Not as lot to say here, assuming you`ve checked out the other discs in the series.... Video quality over the whole series has been excellent considering the age of the master tapes, with only a few scratches here and there noticable. Digital artifacting is hardly noticable and the contrast is good with blacks nicely black but without the picture looking too dark.
Audio
The original mono soundtrack is faithfully reproduced in digital form. Whilst generally ok, occasionally dialogue gets slightly muddy and things can sound a little tinny - but it never detracts from what`s going on.
Features
Again, there`s nothing particularly new here, just more of the (good) same. The extras contain the usual Rod Serling biography, a season by season commentary, history of the twilight zone and a review and credit section for each episode on the disk.
Conclusion
If you are a Twilight Zone fan, you won`t be disappointed as this fits in perfectly with the rest of the set. If you are new to the `Zone, I`d recommend you start with a lower number in the set ;)
Points though for keeping image quality etc consistent through more that two dozen discs.
