Anime Review Roundup

Last week I took a look at My Hero Academia Season 4 Part 1. MHA is a serialised, ongoing story, so it’s pointless to recommend you jump in at this point. You’ll have to go back to Season 1 and start from there. On the bright side, the story in this collection is easily up to the high standard established from the beginning, and might even be a little better. Certainly when it comes to peril and the stakes faced by the protagonists, and the villain, this story is the most thrilling yet. Click on the review to read more.

Rosario and Vampire Season 2. The first season of Rosario and Vampire was an interesting blend of fan service, comedy, and with a few dramatic storylines, as a hapless teen male wound up going to a school for monsters by accident, having to hide his human identity. His human blood attracted the vampire in his class, who also found him attractive; romantic gazes tend to lead to his blood being sucked, but as is the way, he quickly gathered a harem of like minded girls, a succubus, an ice girl, and a witch as well, and together they had plenty of hijinks and adventures. It was a nice blend and popular enough to warrant a second season. And what did they do for the follow-up? They increased the fan service. Typical!

The odd thing is that it works. Rosario and Vampire is distinctly old-fashioned for a harem comedy anime, sticking with what it knows best, and delighting its target audience with its silly perversions and plethora of panty shots. It’s delightfully politically incorrect, and a useful reminder that sometimes comedy fans just want a little Benny Hill in their lives. MVM released Rosario and Vampire Season 2 on DVD. Here is my review. It’s deleted now, but there are still unsold copies out there in the wild.

Manga Entertainment released My Hero Academia: Season 4 Part 1 on Blu-ray and DVD on November 2nd.
