Review for Chucklevision Series 1
If you have ever seen two people carrying a sofa or a cupboard and they have said 'To Me' To You' and you have no idea what they are talking about, then you did not grow up with saturday morning television. This was when The Chuckle Brother Paul and Barry would burst onto our screens with another half hour of Chucklevision madness.
Chucklevision is possibly the most harmless show I ever seen and in some ways that makes it timeless. If you are a fan of slapstick comedy then this will be right up your street and if you don't, then you might need to go check yourself for a sense of humour.
This first series consists of thirteen episodes of around twenty minutes of the brothers having to carry out a task of some kind. If you have watched any Mr Bean of classic silent shorts of the likes of Buster Keaton you will appreciate the general simplicity of the plots. Topics include the likes of Halloween, Fitness and going to the Movies. All of these generally start with them wanting to do something very simple and the awful antics and problems they get themselves into to achieve it.
What I loved about the show when I was a kid was that although they are clearly adults (moustaches and all) they both act like children (Barry particularly) and this dynamic between the brothers is endearing to the point you want them to succeed no matter the odds. The slapstick is simply perfect and I found myself laughing with the family at the this at multiple occasions.
Sometimes, when you try to relive something from the past it does not hold up, but like all good comedy this does. It doesn't try to be topical and thus dated and doesn't try to be edgy or hip, it simply tries to be funny and that's exactly what it is. If you just want a simple half hour show that you don't have to think too much about and just want a giggle, then this is the show for you.
