Anime Review Roundup

MVM Kick Off The Week With A New Licence
If there is one genre that the anime world has embraced of late, but we in the West have seen little of outside online streaming, it’s the idol genre. After all, a show about pop-idols will invariably feature a lot of music, and said music will throw up enough in the way of licensing roadblocks to put a distributor off. Not even K-On! could get a release in the West without a song replacement after all. While the US and Australia have dabbled in the idol genre with shows like AKB0048, we’ve had to do without the current tranche of idol shows, until now. MVM have announced that the first footstep into the world of the anime idol will be Super Sonico the Animation, a show about the Nitroplus mascot. They also later added on Facebook that they are aiming for a late summer release on DVD and Blu-ray, but plans are yet to be confirmed.

Let’s make this simple. Last week I reviewed Kamisama Dolls Complete Collection. That is all. Well, you could say that it’s more an incomplete collection, seeing as the series was never finished in Japan. It’s one of those mash-up series, taking a bit of romantic comedy and cute girl hijinks, and marrying it with a sci-fi fantasy mystery tale about a village that hides a powerful secret, blended with no little action, and even a little gore. It’s a hell of a mix, and if you click on the review, you can see if it works or not, and whether this show is interesting enough to warrant further attention, even without a conclusion.

MVM release Kamisama Dolls Complete Collection on DVD on the 2nd of February.
