Review for WWE Live in the UK: November 2013
Yes, it's that time again and once again WWE have cobbled together the Raw, Smackdown, Main Event and Superstars from their Manchester shows slapped it on a disk, added a random UK match from the past and released it. This includes all four shows and Main Event which doesn't show in the UK for some reason. Well, actually I can tell you why, it's because no one watches it anyway.
The two disks features a slew of matches and if you are massive fans of WWE you might actually enjoy it because at times (mainly during Raw) there is a 'big match' feel to some of what is shown. However, it does feel at times like the WWE is just pandering to the British crowd. You know that when they are in the UK every British wrestler on contract will be on and there will be multiple jokes and comments about usual British things. Well, this is no different.
Raw is so wrong being three hours and every time I try and watch it as three hours I die a little inside. This show is fine in general and does include a few matches that in other circumstances could have been PPV quality. CM Punk and Daniel Bryan against The Shield should have been a match made in heaven on PPV, but instead just felt like a wasted opportunity. John Cena against The Real Americans is fine, but nothing special and really what do you expect it's Cena? Cody Rhodes and Goldust against Randy Orton should have been good and had all the potential to be just that, but for whatever reason it just wasn't and that is such a shame.
The rest of the show is just your typical Raw matches not given enough time to mean anything and the fact that the show featured ten matches which is more than most three hour PPVs is both a surprise and a waste. Nikki Bella against Tamina was a great way to watch AJ and the Bellas, but proves (if it needed proving) that Nikki cannot wrestle in the slightest and Tamina looks embarrassed being in the ring with her. Funnily a 'This is Awesome' chant tries to start during the match, but fails for obvious reasons.
Los Matadores and Santino against The Union Jacks made me want to weep. If this is supposed to be the best Britain can offer then our wresting schools have failed. It's basically just 3MB dressed in Union Jack outfits. The match itself was pointless and the fact that the Union Jacks once made me wonder what the point was?
Main Event features three matches, but all you need to know is that AJ defends her Divas Title against Natalya. As pointless as this show was, it is worth it to see AJ again. What makes this match great is watching just how great AJ and Natalya and compared to the previous Divas match, this was great.
Superstars is practically unwatchable with two matches that I wouldn't even watch even if I had to. Ignore unless you really want to see The Funkadactyls against Alicia Fox and Aksana which was almost funny in its awfulness.
Smackdown should have been good and at times it was, but for every good moment such as Punk/Bryan as a team take two, there was a Cena/Del Rio arm wrestle? I mean did I go back in time to when Steiner and Triple H did this in the early 2000s? It wasn't entertaining then and it certainly wasn't now. WWE obviously wanted to get their money's worth out of the Union Jacks joke which failed again and after that it was just all painful. Usually, Smackdown is the show that proves that WWE can wrestle... obviously not this time.
As with all these sets WWE includes an old match from in the UK. This time it is a pretty good match between Triple H and The Undertaker from Insurrextion 2002. Again as I always say, if WWE want to embrace this past they should just release a 'Best of WWE in the UK' DVD with all these great matches as often it is the only good thing about these sets. The only sad thing is watching it, it makes me wish that WWE would actually do a PPV here instead of these shows.
Ok, after all this, I have one piece of advise to whoever in WWE is signing off on these sets:
Stop it!
No seriously. Stop releasing these pointless sets. If you want to do something special for the tapings that happen here record more of the interview, behind scenes stuff and only include the best matches from the shows. I do not want to watch a random Raw, Smackdown etc from the Manchester tapings. I say this every time and every time I say exactly the same thing after watching that they need to stop. Why not release WWE Live in Idaho next or WWE Live in Alaska? There's a reason why they don't and that's because no one other than the people there would care. Did I want to relieve the painful Union Jacks nonsense? John Cena armwrestling and some horrendous wrestling throughout? Why would I want to view that again? How does someone watch this and say 'Yes, this is acceptable to release and people will want to watch this'???
WWE Live in the UK November 2013 is a pointless set that will only appeal those who were actually there and want to freezeframe the three seconds when they can be seen. There is nothing that I would rewatch from these two disks and I doubt anyone would. Please listen WWE. Either release a 'Best of' with a host of other bits or don't release it at all!
