Anime Review Roundup

Incompatible Un-Go Slips as does Deadman Wonderland

Last week it transpired that Kazé’s forthcoming Un-Go release had incompatibility problems when it came to its Blu-ray component and Panasonic devices. This week, it should have been out, but instead Manga Entertainment have announced that the release has been delayed until July 8th. This is due to issues with shipping on Kazé’s part, and makes no difference when it comes to the Blu-ray’s compatibility issues.

I actually forgot to mention last week that due to production issues, Deadman Wonderland has been pushed back to September 9th. With all these titles being pushed back to July, it’s actually a good thing that it’s making room!

Bakemonogashana?
Bakemonogatari Part 1 should have been out today. But at the last minute, MVM discovered an error in the packaging, Shana discs instead of Bakemonogatari discs. There was a recall, but some retailers ignored it and posted out the set anyway, which is why some of you might be scratching your heads right now. Anyway, MVM advise that you return the set to where you purchased it, and a correctly packaged Bakemonogatari will be released on July 1st instead. Click here for more details from UK Anime Network.

This week’s first review is for Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple: Season 1. It’s a show that ought to have been here two years ago, but it unceremoniously vanished off the release schedules, with no explanation as to why. I was pretty hyped about it in the first place, it looked like a fun action comedy, but the mystery behind its disappearance and the long wait, punctuated by a temptation to import actually made my anticipation for the show spiral. Now that it’s here, with its shonen antics given a comic spin, where the school wimp gets rescued by a seriously tough girl and joins her grandfather’s dojo to learn some self-defence, and I hope that the anticipation won’t outweigh the actual experience

There’s even more hype about my second review of the week, Bakemonogatari: Part 1. It’s a quirky supernatural mystery show given the SHAFT treatment, and it is visually unlike anything else you’ll have seen. You’d think with this kind of fan fervour around it, the only question is whether to buy the DVDs, or wait for the Blu-rays in a couple of months. But beneath the hyperbole there is an anime to discover, and I’ve taken a look at what Bakemonogatari is really about.

Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple came out last Monday from Manga Entertainment, while Bakemonogatari: Part 1 ought to have been released today, but as mentioned, has been pushed back to the First of July by MVM.
