Review for WWE Falls Count Anywhere

7 / 10

Falls Count Anywhere is an interesting set, mainly because it shows what PG has done to the WWE. Only three matches are featured since the switch over, with only one coming from a PPV.

The rest of the matches come from a time when blood was allowed and also when a chairshot looked like it hurt. This is not to say that wrestling has gotten soft, it's just that when wrestlers are cut and the match has to be stopped so an EMT can check it you wonder whether this would have happened in the middle of a Cactus Jack or Road Warriors match.

Hosted by Mick Foley, who else would be better than the Hardcore Legend himself? He features in only two of the matches on the set, but provides a number of comments throughout about the matches about to be seen and only a man who has wrestled on barbed wire and thumbtacks could really explain just how hardcore this all is. What makes this great is that they include the full interview between Dude Love and Mankind introducing Cactus Jack which is one of my favourite moments in WWE.

One of the positives of this set is that there is not a reliance on one person. The set features matches from The Rock, Triple H, Sting, Ric Flair, Booker T, Road Warriors, Bret Hart, Stone Cold, Shawn Michaels. The matches are from WCW, ECW and WWE's PPV and TV. The mix is great as you can see a wide range of performers from all the companies.

Though having only one ECW match is a little bizarre when you consider how much of their early days could be described as 'Falls Count Anywhere'. Though Taz vs Bam Bam Bigelow is an insane example of what happened in ECW.

Highlights on the set include Cactus Jack vs. Sting from Beach Blast which is possibly the best match of either of them. Shawn Michaels vs Triple H at Summerslam 2002 was a great match as was Fully Loaded 1999's Triple H vs The Rock. It is strange to think of any matches that are missing and although there must be some I think that this covers every significant match of this type.

Falls Count Anywhere is a great set for those who enjoy the violence that wrestling used to include. Those who enjoy old skool wrestling or indeed enjoy watching a match where anything and everything goes then this is the set for you. Be warned though, for those who have gotten used to the PG of WWE or are unaware of the history of these matches be prepared for some hardcore violence.
