Review for WWE Capitol Punishment
Coming from Washington DC you knew that WWE would do some kind of Obama skit but really could WWE have found a worse Obama lookalike? And the vignettes with Vicky Guerrero and Santino were painful and wasted time. Did someone really think these were funny? WWE did this many years ago with a Bill Clinton lookalike. It wasn't funny then and it isn't funny now. However, the stuff with R-Truth was great and I do love the way they built this. It's a shame that WWE didn't capitalise more on it though.
US Championship
Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler
I love Kofi, but it just seems that he will forever be stuck in the midcard. He is a great worker and gets a great reaction from the crowd, but it just seems that he's destined to be just a midcarder. Dolph? Again so much potential and also has Vicky Guerrero, but doesn't seem able to step up. A good match though.
The Miz vs. Alex Riley
A great match. It is a classic teammates breaking up storyline that is one of the oldest stories in the wrestling handbook. But this one worked very well and the match was pretty good.
Big Show vs. Alberto Del Rio
Nope. I still don't see what people see in Alberto and really this match didn't change any of that.
Intercontinental Championship
Wade Barrett vs. Ezekiel Jackson
An ok match, but felt more like the kind of match they would have on TV, nothing special to it and maybe should have had a stipulation or something to make the match more interesting.
Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk
Though I have seen this match numerous times I still enjoyed it and could probably these two wrestle many times. They work so well together and it is a shame that it is just a match and there doesn't seem to be anything behind it, but still one of the best of the night.
World Heavyweight Championship
Randy Orton vs. Christian
I just don't know what I think about Christian as a heel. I think fans will cheer for him no matter what and I don't think we want to boo him. Orton? I could boo him all day long. The match was ok, but really when I think about it, the match was utterly forgettable. Which is a shame.
Evan Bourne vs. Jack Swagger
Special Attraction Match? In what way was this a Special Attraction? More like a 'We realised the PPv was short so just threw out any old match we could'. Not disputing the quality of the match, though it was average and surely the seven minutes it was given could have been given to one of the other matches.
WWE Championship
John Cena vs. R-Truth
After all that build... we get this??? Personally the R-Truth story was probably one of the best WWE have created in terms of a character in years... and what do they do? They give us... This??? Not a good match. In fact this smacks a little of 'WWE doesn't think R-Truth will draw' and really until WWE give someone like R-Truth a chance we will continue to see Cena with the belt around him.
You notice anything? Where is the Divas Match? Tag Match? I'm actually shocked at this. Not that I ever enjoyed a Divas match, but even just to watch the entrances was worth it. And not having one tag match is unforgivable in my book. The problem with this PPV is not that the matches weren't good (though most of them weren't) it was that the PPV was totally and utterly forgettable. Nothing from the PPV was memorable and if you asked me in a week to name one match from it I wouldn't have an answer. Capitol Punishment was just WWE phoning it in and maybe it should be capital punishment for whoever in WWE thought this show was good enough.
