Review for WWE Extreme Rules 2011
A word of advice for anyone who is planning on buying this DVD... those of you who (like me) have terrible memories and don't remember who won the WWE Championship match. If you are buying it ask someone else to do it. Why? Because the cover (AGAIN???) features one of the superstars holding the belt in triumph... but not the champion who went into the match. Again this is equivilant of having the murderer of a murder mystery pointed out on the cover.
Extreme Rules features a number of pretty good matches including a wonderful CM Punk vs. Randy Orton Last Man Standing Match. I am not a big fan of Orton, but I love Punk and think I could watch him wrestle anyone and enjoy it. This wasn't as brutal as most matches of this type, but still a great match. Sheamus vs. Kofi Kingston in a Tables match for the US belt was a good match and almost made the belt mean something. Almost!
The World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match between Christian and Alberto Del Rio was fabulous and had one of the most satisfying endings I have seen in a very long time. The main event was an awesome cage match for the WWE Championship between The Miz, John Cena and John Morrison. I thought this was one of the best cage matches I have seen in a long time.
Of course it can't all be good. The Falls Count Anywhere between Rey Mysterio and Cody Rhodes was fine, but forgettable. Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross vs. Michael Cole and Jack Swagger was an embarrassment. Layla vs. Michelle McCool was ok, but really it was only the debut of Kharma that made it memorable. And finally the WWE Tag Championship match between Big Show and Kane vs. Wade Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson was a waste of my time.
Extreme Rules 2011 was a mixbag of a PPV. However, I can almost overlook the terrible matches because the rest was so good. So I would advise you all to just skip through all that and just watch the two title matches, the tables and the last man standing match. All of these make this a DVD worth watching again.
