Review for UFC Ultimate Knockouts 8
I love knockouts in UFC. The reason is it is just so brutal. The impact. The effect. A knockout in UFC can make a fighter a legend. But... and this is a big BUT... one in the middle of a show is great. Two? It still has the same effect, but ninety plus minutes of them could be a little overkill.
Much like when WWE release their Best Cage Matches or NBA and their Best Slamdunks, after the first few you become almost desensitised to them and they cease to mean anything. This DVD features thirty knockouts, showcasing the talents of stars like Brock Lesnar, Ryan Bader, Dos Santos, Frank Mir, Mauricho 'Shogun' Rua and current UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez.
Many of the fights are technically TKOs and so don't have the same effect as when it's a one punch and down, but they are still brutal to watch. Sometimes watching someone go down a few times makes you have even more respect for both fighters. The DVD is structured chronologically which is fine and gives the set some direction and though the great majority of it is fantastic there is a lot of average stuff here that really should been included as part of an 'honourable mentions' or 'best of the rest' montage.
The strangest thing is that for each PPV or main event they produce UFC award a 'Knockout of the Night' and so you would think that these would be the bulk of this DVD. Though many are included, many are missing which is a little odd, but it may be because it would involve the same fighters over and over, but then for some that wouldn't be a bad thing. If you are fans to UFC it is a great round up and if you are new to the MMA phenomenon, this would be a good place to start.
UFC Ultimate Knockouts 8 is a great DVD if you like to watch brutal knockouts. For those more interested in the technical side of MMA there is still a lot to offer here, but the main purpose of this DVD is to show an opponent going down for the count, rather than tapping out. (I'm sure an Ultimate Tapouts will be in the pipeline). If you enjoy watching UFC and seeing people have their lights switched out, then this DVD will be a knockout for you!
