Do Not Disturb
"I like to think of it as an intense Lego project called, Do Not Disturb. I came up with the idea after ComicCon, when my apartment was flooded and I was housed in a hotel for three months. Live in a hotel long enough and you see a lot of crazy people." - Mali Elfman, creator and producer.
Do Not Disturb is a narrative film that takes five different darkly humorous short stories and joins them together through the eyes of an imaginative hotel maid and her special connection with Room 316.
1. Duccios Maddona
The first story that unfolds in Room 316 is known as "Duccios Madonna," directed by Eric Balfour (Skyline, 24, Six Feet Under). This small twisted tale tells a sympathetic story about a lonely middle-aged man, played by Harris Goldberg (Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo), who pushes a street-worn hooker, played by Maureen Flannigan (90210, Out of This World, 7th Heaven), too far with his unimaginable requests, only to find an eager maid, played by Diva Zappa (Make It or Break It, The Mighty Boosh) happy to help him finish the job.
2. Rocketman
The second story behind the doors of Room 316 is "Rocketman," directed by Petro Papahadjopoulos (Shout About Movies). Petro combines a Twilight-zone meets Sci-Fi kind of story about an astronaut, played by Eric Balfour (Skyline, Six Feet Under, 24) who's on a 24 hour leave from the dark-side of the moon trying for one romantic night with his wife, played by Lindsay Pulsipher (Eleventh Hour, True Blood) only to find her instead a bit…alien.
3. Prom
The third occupants of Room 316 are in a story called, "Prom," directed by Laura Henry (Boston Legal). Laura decides to lighten up the mood with a sweet teenage romance between two boys from the rural south on a high school graduation trip to the big city. One boy is openly gay while the other is not, and together they try to find some connection and meaning about life before setting off to college.
4. Intrinsic
"Intrinsic," is the fourth installment inside Room 316, directed by newcomer Jon Mann-Krieger. It's a hilarious noir thriller about what can happen between a man, a woman, a maid, and the mafia; and in a case of mistaken identity, "Intrinsic" gives our imaginative maid a run for her money.
5. Death Takes A Holiday Inn
The final story of Do Not Disturb is "Death Takes a Holiday Inn," directed by Brandon Nicholas (Beauty in Chaos, Desert Son). This tale cleans up the show with a spooky reflective horror about a hotel maid caught in a ghostly mess.
Do Not Disturb will be available on VOD, iTunes, Amazon VOD, Blockbuster, Cinema Now and numerous others on May 1st, 2011!
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Each director was given a brief synopsis, eight rules to follow, and one day on a hotel room set to create a short film that would later be woven into a feature. Do Not Disturb is a truly independent production born out of the desire to make a small and creepy film that would cost virtually nothing and entertain everything. The goal was to hire a cast and crew with the same drive as the producers along with an amazing "can do" attitude. And it happened!
Do Not Disturb is a 100% collaborative project made from the donations of time and effort of many, many incredibly talented people.
