DivX Integrated on STMicroelectronics' Decoder Technology Enabling Playback of Digital Video and Hollywood Movies in the DivX Format on Set-top Boxes
Native ST Media Player on the STi7105 will be DivX Certified
DivX, Inc., a leading digital media company, today announced at IPTV World Forum 2010 that the native ST Media Player on STMicroelectronics' STi7105 will be DivX Certified. The STi7105 from STMicroelectronics, one of the world's leading suppliers of silicon solutions for set-top boxes, will offer a turnkey solution for set-top box suppliers and operators to support playback of digital video and Hollywood movies in the DivX format.
The STi7105 delivers competitive performance advantages for all set-top box markets, including basic zapper boxes, digital video recorders and media-server devices. By supporting the latest high-definition standards, as well as standard-definition formats such as AVS, the STi7105 delivers a compelling, high-performance solution for products deployed in all geographic regions.
DivX technology allows video content to be compressed to a fraction of its original size, while maintaining excellent visual quality. Using DivX software, up to eight standard definition movies can fit on an 8 GB USB flash drive. Once DivX Certified, the STMicroelectronics-powered set-top boxes will enable consumers to play back their favorite digital videos and Hollywood movies in the DivX format stored on their personal USB drives, DLNA or Ethernet.
"We are excited to offer OEMs and operators an easy-to-use solution that satisfies consumer demand for high-quality, compelling digital media and Hollywood movie playback," said Kevin Hell, Chief Executive Officer, DivX, Inc. "We look forward to continue working with STMicroelectronics and further expanding our presence in the set-top box market segment."
"Our set-top box partners expect high-quality video playback of Internet files and Hollywood content, and by integrating DivX technology in our next-generation STi7105 system-on-chip device, we will be able to deliver best-in-class user experience," said Stewart Gebbie, Director Third Party Relationships, Home Video Division, STMicroelectronics.
Products that bear the DivX Certified logo have undergone a rigorous testing program to ensure a high-quality DivX media experience, including reliable video creation and playback, interoperability with other DivX Certified devices and the visual high-quality users expect from DivX.
