Lone Wolf and Cub

'The Way of the Samurai is found in death. Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day when one's body and mind are at peace, one should meditate on being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears and swords. Being carried away by surging waves, being thrown into the mist of a great fire, being struck by lightning, being shaken to death by a great earthquake, falling from thousand foot cliffs, dying of disease or committing Seppuku on the death of one's master. And every day without fail one should consider himself as dead. This is the substance of the Way of the Samurai…'

Verdict: Eureka has released a magnificent DVD box-set. These films are pure comic book style madness. Don't let the unfamiliar culture of ancient Japan get in the way of this grindhouse style bloodshed. If you like to watch blood spurt from your TV screen and spray all over your face then the Lone Wolf and Cub series is for you. It's striking how similar these films are to the Spaghetti Westerns of Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood. The Lone Wolf character is an embodiment of the 'man with no name' - A wandering hero in a lawless world.

'No one bleeds like this unless they have garden hoses for veins' (Roger Ebert)

Your Opinions and Comments

Quite simply one of the best reviews we've had in years! And one that makes me want to buy this box set more than any other box set I've ever wanted to buy, ever. Even more than I wanted Lord of the Rings with a Gollum to fish slap.
