The Best of SmackDown! 10th Anniversary
This is all you need to know: 'Hosted by Michael Cole'.
Thankyou and eject!
It seems bizarre that the current announcers JR and Todd Grisham aren't hosting this show and instead we are treated to the wonderful match up of Michael Cole (who I'll give him his dues as he was on Smackdown for most of the ten years) and Matt Striker... erm... the ECW announcer???
The format is a Top 100 moments from the ten years spread over the three disks with a number of full matches throughout. People speaking are such stars as Todd 'Cash Machine' Grisham, Michael 'Keep the black man down' Hayes, William Regal, Santino Marella, Jesse and Candice Michelle.
I kinda get the feeling that they should have maybe done top five for each year or narrowed it down to top 50 as surely some of these moments though memorable you'd think WWE would like us to forget... like the Billy and Chuck wedding, Mattitude, Heidenreich Poetry, Al Snow and Steve Blackman, The Al Wilson storyline, The Rey-Eddie Dominik angle, Vicky Guerrero, Big Bossman stealing Big Show's father's casket, The 9/11 show-though obviously they are forgetting Stephanie's idiotic comparison between the terrorist attack and Vince McMahon's federal trial... um yeah???
Highlights:
99 Stephanie McMahon dressed as a boobie witch... worth the price alone! (Speaking of which where were my two favourite Stephanie moments... her being spanked by Cena and her introducing Mr America-bending over a desk)
96 Good match between Orton and Taker
93 Great match between Eddie and Rey-as long as you forget the storyline that meant with it
83 Boogeyman eating jillian's mole... good god i didn't want to be reminded of that
77 Rock n Sock Connection- always good to see
73 Dawn Marie and Torrie Wilson... never looked any better!
61 McMahon's nWo speech... Vince at his crazy and maniacal best.
58 Kane's impersonation of Hogan and Rock! Classic!
56 Stacy Keibler's lapdance interview...Wow! I've never wanted to be Vince McMahon so much in my life!
55 Rob Van dam vs Stone Cold... Why did WWE never capitalise on this?
46 Tribute to Eddie... Thought this would be higher though.
40 Undertaker vs Angle Great match
34 Crash Holly 24/7 Rule. Forgot how good and funny that was.
32 Undertaker tombstoning Vicky Guerrero... well I had to really... this was on my a-b repeat for hours!
30 John Cena's debut... seriously? SERIOUSLY? Man! That was funny!
24 Triple H teaching Trish moves... I forgot how funny and good this was. Trish looks so damn good! Come back Trish!!!!
22 Iron Man Match: Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle... I wish they had included the full match though.
15 TLC 3 Hardyz, Dudleyz, Edge and Christian and Chris Jericho and some guy I've never seen before... Benoit or something... I'm kinda glad they didn't show this match in full as if it was anything like the edited footage which... despite the fact that the only time we see this guy called Benoit (Wasn't he a champion at some point?) is when he's pulling the belts down. They even do a hilarious montage of everyone in this match except him???
12 Vince wins WWE Championship
8 No DQ Match: Eddie Guerrero vs Edge. Both not quite at the apex of their careers, but a great step forward for both.
7 The Rock... Man he was soooo good on the mic.
3 The Rock vs Triple H... when you consider this was Smackdown's first main event, you can understand why it took off as huge as it did.
1 Post 9/11 Show. This certainly was an emotional night and I can understand why it is up this high.
The Best of Smackdown 1999-2009 is a great set. I do wish that the matches had been set aside on a bonus disk and that rather than a 100-1 countdown that it went chronologically to see the evolution of the product from debut to today. Saying that, this is a great overview of the last 10 years of WWE and though I kinda wish they hadn't included so many moments that are memorable because they were horrible I'm glad we got to see the product warts and all.
