Review of Halloween III: Season Of The Witch

4 / 10

Introduction

Let me start by saying I`m not a great fan of horror flicks. Nothing against them, just that I get my horror in other ways (driving to work with the missus.....)

Ergo, this review will be basically video and audio quality and a little bit on what I thought, as an independant viewer, of the movie.

Hope this is okay with you all.

Video

Hmm. This is possibly the worst video I have ever seen on a DVD. I`m not just talking about the transfer but the standard of the original camera work.

The image is certainly showing it`s age. It`s colours are grainy and washed out with noise and artifacts a plenty.

The camera appears to be actually shaking in all the shots. I couldn`t find one single moment in the film where the image was still. Maybe the budget didn`t run to a tripod, or the mastering machine was so poorly installed and maintained that the reels were off camber.

Anyhow, the image is a fullscreen offering with basically no redeeming features.

Audio

A DD 2.0 soundtrack that when converted to Pro-Logic does it`s best to entertain, but like the video, is starting to show it`s age.

Could be worse, could be a hell of a lot better.

Features

Interactive menus. Thats it.

Conclusion

I have seen Halloween 1 before and thought it not bad, but this sequel to the sequel is terrible.

No Mike Myers, no Jamie Lee Curtis, no John Carpenter and absolutely no connection to the other films in the series (apart from the obvious).

I can see it`s attraction to fans of the genre and some of the suspense is quite well worked, but for me it doesn`t cut the mustard. What does cut, right to the nerves, is the tune that plays continually through the movie. Enough to make you want to pick up a chainsaw and ........
